CHIEFS NEWS: Travis Kelce’s Practice Outfit Has Fans in Disbelief – Chiefs sign former Pro Bowl offensive tackle D.J. Humphries

Travis Kelce's Practice Outfit Has Fans in Disbelief - Athlon Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for their Week 12 contest against the Carolina Panthers, and they will be looking to put together a bounce back performance after suffering their first loss of the season against the Buffalo Bills in Week 11. With that in mind, all eyes will be on star tight end Travis Kelce.

While the Chiefs didn’t play well enough as a whole to come out on top against the Bills, Kelce didn’t exactly enjoy a productive day at the office. In fact, he hauled in just two catches for eight yards, making it one of the worst games of his highly prolific career.

Kelce has a great chance to get back on track against the lowly Panthers, and he’s been putting in the work during practice throughout the week in an effort to right the ship. However, he surprised fans by wearing shorts and a short sleeve t-shirt to the team’s practice on Friday, even though the temperature was only 42 degrees.

Winter is rolling in quickly, and with temperatures dropping across the country, many folks are switching to long sleeve shirts and pants to combat the cold. Kelce doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it, though, as he is still dressed like it’s summer, while the majority of his teammates coaches are bundled up.

Temperatures will soon be hitting lows that make 42 degrees look scorching hot in Kansas City, but it’s not exactly the type of weather you’d be wearing shorts and a t-shirt for, especially if you are working outside all day at practice like Kelce is.

Playing in cold games is simply a part of the job in the NFL, especially for a team like the Chiefs. So in a way, Kelce may simply be trying to get himself ready for the upcoming cold front that is set to arrive with winter, or he may not believe 42 degrees to be all that cold.

Report: Chiefs sign former Pro Bowl offensive tackle D.J. Humphries

The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing in some help for the offensive line.

According to a report from Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Kansas City is signing former Pro Bowl offensive tackle D.J. Humphries.

The 30-year-old offensive lineman who played collegiately at Florida has started 98 career games in eight NFL seasons, all of which came with the Arizona Cardinals.

Humphries was a Pro Bowler playing left tackle for Arizona in the 2021 season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Friday morning Humphries was medically cleared to return to football activities this week. He tore his ACL in Week 17 last season and rehabbed throughout the summer after being released by Arizona in March.

Humphries turns 31 in December and took a visit with the New York Giants in October according to Rapoport.

His signing comes a week after Kansas City made second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia a healthy scratch for a game against the Buffalo Bills. Suamataia was benched in a Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals and appeared in a few games in relief of second-year tackle Wanya Morries, who the Chiefs have said has dealt with a knee bruise throughout the season.

During the 2024 season, the Chiefs have allowed 22 sacks, which ranks better than league average.

It remains to be seen whether Humphries will take Morris’ starting role or whether he’ll back up the position as Kansas City attempts to complete the first three-peat in the Super Bowl era.

Coming off the torn ACL, Humphries will join Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu as another veteran dealing with a rehab from that injury late in last season. On Friday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Omenihu and running back Isiah Pacheco — who broke his fibula in Week 2 — will remain out Sunday when the Chiefs play the Carolina Panthers.
