Lions list 7 as questionable vs Rams, could active TE Shane Zylstra - Yahoo Sports

The Detroit Lions have one tight end on their 53-man roster, but they could get a second back from injury for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Tight end Shane Zylstra is one of seven Lions listed as questionable for the game. Zylstra remains on injured reserve in his comeback from a September knee injury, but he was a limited participant in practice Friday, Dec. 12, for the third straight day.

“He’s done well,” Lions offensive coordinator John Morton said this week. “He’s more of a receiving tight end, that helps. It’s been missing ever since [Sam] LaPorta’s been gone. So, he helps in that aspect.”

The Lions have lost their top two tight ends to injury. LaPorta is out for the season following back surgery and Brock Wright is recovering from a trachea injury and not expected back until the playoffs.

Anthony Firkser is the only tight end currently on the Lions’ 53-man roster.

Along with Zylstra, the Lions listed offensive linemen Taylor Decker (shoulder), Kayode Awosika (foot) and Christian Mahogany (fibula), receiver Kalif Raymond (ankle), running back Sione Vaki (thumb) and safety Thomas Harper (concussion) as questionable, and ruled out safeties Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch.

To activate Zylstra to the 53-man roster, the Lions will need to create a roster spot, which they can do by placing Branch (Achilles) on injured reserve.
