The Dallas Cowboys know what is on the line against the Washington Commanders, and for a team that is on a five-game losing streak, that brings its own set of pressures.
Given how poorly Dallas has played in its last five games, there has been a shift in mentality from getting things back on track to fighting for its football life, as the playoffs now seem like a dream.
With the Commanders up next on the Cowboys’ schedule, quarterback Cooper Rush knows the benefits of playing through adversity on the road.
“Sometimes a road [game] can bring guys together,” Rush said. “Back against the wall, we’re feeling [that] now for sure, and then the road game just amplifies it. Some guys respond well to that and I think the communication on the road’s key, it’s critical.”
In an odd twist, all three of the Cowboys’ wins this season have been on the road, so Rush’s suggestion that playing away from AT&T Stadium can help a struggling team is credible.
With the Commanders themselves going through a tough time, losing back-to-back games, this Week 12 clash pits two teams low on confidence against each other in a battle of who can overcome the adversity and build some positive momentum.
Of course, things are a little tougher for the Cowboys given their long injury list and the host of other problems plaguing them, but being on the road with your backs against the wall might be the thing that gives this team that little extra push to snap their losing streak.
Just because the odds are stacked against Dallas doesn’t mean it can’t overcome them.
