Kevin Stefanski wasn’t pleased with a certain aspect of the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Cleveland suffered a 31-29 home loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, which was a disappointing result for the team. Following the loss, Stefanski called out the team’s run defense as he felt the unit needed to be better.
“Very disappointed. You have to give credit to the Titans; they won the game,” Stefanski said postgame on Sunday. “They made more plays than we did in the end, just disappointed with some of the things that happened that game. We expect more from our run defense.
“The giveaways there, that’s not about who we are. We had a punt blocked. Obviously, not getting either of the two-point plays really off is frustrating. That’s on all of us, we own it, can’t hide from it. Offense, defense, special teams, as players and coaches, we will own it. It’s frustrating, but we will move on together.”
The Titans rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns, as Tennessee was led by Tony Pollard, who rushed for 161 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns.
Cleveland’s run defense was a major problem for the Browns on Sunday, and Stefanski called his defense out postgame.
Sanders Addresses Not Being on Field for 2-Point Plays
With Cleveland down 31-29, the Browns went for a two-point conversion to tie the game, but Sanders wasn’t on the field.
The Browns opted to use Quinshon Judkins out of the Wildcat, which didn’t work out. It was a controversial play, and Sanders was asked about not getting the ball, and he admitted it was frustrating.
“If I’m out there any play, I wish I would always have the ball in my hand, But that’s not what football is. Sometimes you gotta run the ball. Sometimes you gotta kick a field goal,” Sanders said, adding that the team practiced the play successfully during the week.
“If [the coaches] knew it would pan out like that, I don’t think they woulda did it,” Sanders continued. “I don’t think in any situation if we feel like something’s not gonna be a success we will intentionally call it and then be surprised when it doesn’t work. Any play you go into a game with you expect success, and if that don’t happen, that don’t happen.”
Sanders was stellar on Sunday as he threw for 23-of-42 for 364 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
Browns’ Defensive Star Praises Sanders
Cleveland was led by Sanders as the rookie had a breakout performance on Sunday.
After the game, Browns defensive star Myles Garrett praised Sanders for his composure and game.
“I think he did well. I think he looked good—I mean, he came up big when we needed him to,” Garrett said. “There’s gonna be some ups and downs for anyone, especially a rookie. But he went in there and he was composed.
“He got out of some sacks, he broke the pocket, he made some big-time plays. Just looking for him to continue to grow, looking for that clock to speed up a little bit. He is a little more at ease each week.”
Cleveland will go on the road to play the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
