Cleveland Browns scoop up just-released Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker

The Cleveland Browns have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Mark Robinson to their practice squad. Robinson was released by the Steelers lsat week after re-joining the team for a month.

Robinson played two games for the Steelers in November. He joined the team to play special teams when there were injuries in the room, but with the full healthy complement of linebackers back, the team is moving on from Robinson.

Robinson was cut by the New York Jets on October 21. He joined the team after being signed off the New England Patriots’ practice squad.

Robinson played in three games for the Patriots after being elevated from the practice squad, and seemingly would have been promoted to the 53-man roster before the Jets swooped him and grabbed him.

Robinson had been with the Steelers since 2022, when they drafted him in the seventh round. Coming out of Ole Miss, Robinson was a converted running back to linebacker and was known for his reputation as a heat-seeking missile. That is exactly what he became with the Steelers.

He played in 38 games with the Steelers, amassing 45 total tackles and three forced fumbles. His most extended playing time came in 2023 when the Steelers suffered a rash of injuries that thrust Robinson into action.

Robinson had become one of the team’s top special-teams players over his three seasons with the group.

Carson Bruener, a special teams captain at Washington, made 15 tackles in the preseason, with over half of those coming on special teams. With four years on his rookie contract left compared to Robinson’s one year left, the Steelers chose to go with youth and development over Robinson, who had been around for years when they cut him.
