Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes draws surprising take from Super Bowl winner

The Kansas City Chiefs are experiencing one of their more disappointing seasons in recent memory, filled with ups and downs that have included injuries and mind-blowing losses to teams they’d typically find a way to defeat. They currently have a challenging path to get into the NFL postseason, with most simply expecting that Patrick Mahomes and company will find a way to do it again.

It’s been a down season following their trip to the Super Bowl and loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Most recently, the team suffered a close loss to Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. The team’s 6-6 record has them on the outside looking in at the playoff bracket.

It will likely mean needing to win all of their remaining games and hoping another team ranked above them falters. Kansas City doesn’t have the easiest schedule, per se, but plays three playoff teams, and beating them could help them get into the postseason.

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes draws surprising take from Super Bowl winner

Many people believe that, despite what’s been a mediocre season, Patrick Mahomes is still considered among the greatest quarterbacks in the game today. However, a recent eye-opening take arrived on ESPN’s “First Take” suggesting that the Super Bowl winner and former MVP’s image could take a serious hit.

Jeff Saturday, who won a Super Bowl as a center with the Indianapolis Colts, delivered the surprising remarks on the show as he spoke about how Mahomes would be viewed.

“We have all, including myself, and still do, probably believe he is the best that’s ever done it to this point in his career. It has been a remarkable watch what he is capable of doing and what he has done for this franchise, but we can’t act like that he hasn’t been part of the issues that have happened with the Chiefs,” Saturday said.

He mentioned Mahomes throwing late-game interceptions and doing things we usually don’t see from the NFL star. While Saturday referenced some of the other issues with the Chiefs, he said many people expect that Mahomes will always bring them to the Super Bowl.

“You’re talking about if they don’t make the playoffs. You still have a little less than a third of the season left. If you don’t make the playoffs, that means you are in a spiral, which would be shocking to me, but if they did miss the playoffs, it would make me look at Patrick Mahomes differently,” he said.

Saturday mentioned that the Chiefs have Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy, and Rashee Rice, which many people thought would give them the sort of offense people usually see in Kansas City. However, it really hasn’t.

The Chiefs’ next game is against the red-hot Houston Texans, who have their starting quarterback, CJ Stroud, back. In addition, they’ll face the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos on their schedule, two teams currently considered playoff contenders.

Kansas City’s most winnable games come against the lowly Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders. However, before they can end their season with the Raiders, they’ll need to take care of business by defeating the Texans, Chargers, and Broncos.
