BREAKING : Frank Ragnow won’t save the Lions from their massive Graham Glasgow problem

Detroit Lions star center Frank Ragnow’s decision to come out of retirement lasted just three days.

He won’t rejoin the team after a failed physical revealed a Grade 3 hamstring tear, a brutally unfortunate blow for both parties — and Graham Glasgow.

Welcoming back Ragnow roughly six months following his choice to hang up the cleats wasn’t just a massive development because of what he offers. It also meant Glasgow would be able to shift to right guard, where we’ve seen him enjoy the most success as a pro. Alas, that’s all for naught, and it’s back to square one for the Lions.

Graham Glasgow’s struggles at center figure to continue without Frank Ragnow

There’s no sugarcoating it: Glasgow has been a weak link on a typically dominant offensive line that has regressed by some metrics. He’s been a liability up front for the Lions, who are shockingly 28th and 17th, respectively, in ESPN’s 2025 pass and run block win rates.

No center has allowed more quarterback hits than Glasgow’s eight this season, per Pro Football Focus (PFF [$]). While that has translated to just one sack of Jared Goff, it can rattle a signal-caller and disrupt an offense’s flow, as Detroit has experienced firsthand.

Moreover, Glasgow’s 59.3 overall PFF grade ranks 29th out of 37 qualified centers. His versatility and previous experience at the position have done more harm than good for the Lions. He slid in for Ragnow in years past, which ostensibly gave them false hope.

Glasgow’s struggles to replace Ragnow made his shocking comeback a necessity rather than a luxury for a club that’s surprisingly fighting for its playoff life. Instead, the latter’s latest setback is a double whammy of dispiriting outcomes for the Lions.

Coming off three straight Pro Bowl appearances and two consecutive All-Pro Second Team bids, Ragnow’s presence (or lack thereof) cannot be overstated. The 2018 first-round pick stepped away from football at his peak and was set to have a potentially seismic impact on the NFC and NFC North standings. Yet, somehow, the prospective impact he could’ve had on Glasgow may have been the most notable aspect.

It appeared that Ragnow was dusting off the cleats just in the nick of time for the Lions. He was going to step into the heart of their protection unit and allow Glasgow to revert to his more natural spot along the interior. Nevertheless, it’s as if nothing ever happened.
