Chiefs Reveal Patrick Mahomes, Rashee Rice Injury News Before Cowboys Clash

With the short Thanksgiving Day week ahead, the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys were both required to post an “estimated” Week 13 injury report on November 24, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes and wide receiver Rashee Rice were both listed within the KC portion of this news, among others.

Insiders already shared the news that starting right guard Trey Smith will likely miss Chiefs vs. Cowboys, but Mahomes and Rice’s injuries are a new cause for concern. Both integral playmakers appeared to pick up injuries late in Week 12, but they were able to fight through the pain.

On November 24, the Chiefs confirmed “groin” and “hamstring” injuries for Mahomes and Rice, respectively, although the former seems to be in better shape than the latter.

Officially, Kansas City estimated that Mahomes would have practiced in full despite his groin injury, per the report. Meanwhile, Rice was listed as a “limited” participant after his hamstring injury.

This would imply that Mahomes is good to go for Week 13 against the Cowboys, but the Chiefs’ star WR is no sure thing on a short week, according to Chiefs Digest beat reporter Matt Derrick.

“The three to watch [this week] are WR Rashee Rice, WR Xavier Worthy and LB Leo Chenal,” Derrick noted.

Worthy and Chenal were also estimated as “limited” participants with “ankle” and “knee” injuries, respectively.

In case you missed it, Mahomes and Rice both picked up injuries in Week 12, tweaking those muscles that were listed on the Chiefs’ Week 13 report.

Derrick reminded followers of Mahomes’ groin injury, which seemed to flare up late in the comeback win.

“Patrick Mahomes was favoring his groin late in the fourth quarter and in overtime,” Derrick wrote on X. “Looked like it started popping up late on the touchdown drive midway through the fourth quarter.”

As for Rice, his hamstring issue was pretty noticeable in the fourth quarter, and actually forced him to leave the game for a snap or two.

The dynamic wide receiver pulled up on a passing play, grabbing at his leg mid-route. He later forced his way back into the game and made huge catches for KC down the stretch despite appearing to be less than 100 percent.

Chiefs Tight End Noah Gray Is Expected to Miss Week 13 vs. Cowboys

The final injury statuses of Rice, Worthy, and Chenal are unknown at this time, but another important Chiefs player could miss Week 13. Along with Smith, second-string tight end Noah Gray is in danger of sitting on Thanksgiving Day.

“Don’t expect to see Trey Smith or Noah Gray play vs. Dallas,” Derrick informed on November 24, as Gray was listed as a “did not participate” with a concussion. He was the only other estimated non-participant besides Smith (ankle).

Gray hit the ground hard after a tremendous leaping catch in Week 12, putting his body on the line to bring in a key reception.

The staff favorite and Travis Kelce understudy often flies under the radar in an offense as crowded as KC’s, but he always seems to come up clutch when his number is called. Week 12 was a perfect example of that, and the Chiefs may have to go to battle without Gray against the Cowboys.
