Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters during his postgame press conference, addressing teammate Travis Kelce breaking the franchise record for career touchdowns during the Week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos.
“He (Travis Kelce) deserves it. I mean the work that he puts in every single day. I mean, obviously, people watch the gameplay and then like the game days and playing on the field and stuff like that, but he’s a leader, man,” said Mahomes. “He’s someone that comes to work every single day and puts the time in. So it just speaks to the person that he is, that he’s able to go out there and break that record. That was a great play in the big moment of the game. That’s when he usually makes his big plays.”
Early in the fourth quarter, Mahomes connected with Kelce for a 21-yard touchdown completion. In his 13th season, Kelce’s touchdown tonight broke his tie with Priest Holmes for the most touchdowns in Chiefs history. Kelce has 81 receiving touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns, and one fumble recovered for a touchdown, bringing his total to 84.
Kelce’s nine receptions bring him to 1,054 career receptions, which is now the fourth-most receptions by a player in their first 13 seasons, passing Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Johnson. He finished the game leading the offense in both receptions and yardage, with nine receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown.
