Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters on Wednesday during his press conference, sharing his findings from the bye week and discussing what he learned to help improve the team moving forward this season.
“What we try to do, and I think with technology now it’s different than it was a few years back, you’re able to stay up on that,” said Reid, “You’ve got the (Statistical Analysis Coordinator Mike) Fraziers and (Director of Football Research and Development) Marcs (Richards) around the league here where you got these guys that kind of keep you abreast of what’s going on, what your tendencies are, what you need to work on or show in certain spots and down and distance and all of that.”
The long-time head coach has leaned into the analytics in his breakdown of the team’s performance in the first half of the season. The tips on elevating their play will be needed for the contentious home stretch, starting this Sunday against the division-leading Denver Broncos.
“They do a pretty good job. When you go back and put it all together and look at it, you’re kind of fine-tuning what you’ve already gone through,” said Reid, “You just have more time to do it. Is it beneficial? Yeah, the proof is in the pudding, so if we can do better, then it’s been a good evaluation period.”
Reid is 22-4 following a regular-season bye in his career, adding optimism to this Sunday’s matchup in Denver.
