The Cleveland Browns were rumored to be active ahead of the NFL trade deadline, but that wasn’t the case.

Cleveland didn’t add any players. Instead traded away defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and a seventh-round pick to the Chicago Bears for a sixth-round pick. It was a minimal move, as the Browns mostly stayed pat amid another losing season.

With the trade deadline now in the rearview mirror, the focus for the Browns turns to extending star offensive lineman Wyatt Teller, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic.

“There probably was never a realistic trade to be made this week that would have brought the Browns an additional second- or third-round pick,” Jackson wrote. “Given the state of the offensive line, getting a new deal done for Wyatt Teller figures to be a priority either later this season or in early 2026. Defensive end Alex Wright might get a new deal, too. He has the rest of the season to show the Browns he can be viewed as a front-line starter opposite Myles Garrett, who set a franchise record with five sacks in Cleveland’s last game.”

Teller has been with the Browns since 2019 and has been a star offensive guard since joining Cleveland. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler and is in the final year of his four-year, $56.8 million deal with the Browns.

Teller Wants to Retire With The Browns

Although Teller’s name came up in trade talks, he was hoping he wouldn’t be moved.

Instead, the star offensive lineman made it clear he wants to remain in Cleveland and be part of turning the team around.

“I hope that I don’t get traded, I want to retire a Cleveland Brown,” Teller said. “I love it here, I was just talking to these guys about deer hunting and fishing and stuff like that, I don’t want to leave this place, I love this place. But even more than that, I love the city and the fans and everything like that. I know that sounds very cliche, but I truly do.

“If anybody knows my family and I, we’re very close in this community. So, no, I don’t want to get traded, but obviously business is in business and I know that if this could help the Cleveland Browns or something like that, I’m not above the team.”

Teller’s name did come up in trade rumors. But the Browns opted not to move and now can start talking about a potential extension.

Teller also believes the Browns are talented and have all the tools to turn this around quickly.

“I think we have a pretty damn talented team,” Teller said. “I was saying this earlier, people could point at a player here and there, all this different stuff. In the preseason we were going down to teams and whooping their butt. So how can we get back to that?”

Cleveland Favored Over Jets in Week 10

The Browns are coming off their bye week and will travel to play the New York Jets on Sunday.

Although Cleveland is on the road, the Browns are 2.5-point favorites on Sunday. The Jets traded away Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner at the deadline, which flipped the line.

The Browns were favored back in Week 7 when Cleveland dominated the Miami Dolphins.

Cleveland is off to a 2-6 start.
