Seahawks Insider Wonders If Myles Garrett Is a Trade Target

The Seattle Seahawks have emerged as one of the best defenses in the NFL, ranking third in the league with 3.3 sacks per game (23 total through seven games).

On the surface, it seems like Seattle’s pass rush is perfectly set up for success for the rest of the season. But is there an opportunity for the Seahawks improve that strength even more?

Emerald City Spectrum Seahawks reporter Corbin Smith floated a trade proposal on October 28 for one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL. Even though Seattle would have to trade a lot of assets to acquire this star defender, the deal may be worth the price.

Seattle Seahawks Should Try to Get Myles Garrett: Insider

Now, this would be something.

Smith speculated that the Seahawks could trade either Derick Hall or Boye Mafe and three additional draft picks to acquire Garrett from the Cleveland Browns.

#Seahawks fans… Two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and Boye Mafe OR Derick Hall for Myles Garrett… Are you doing it?

First, let’s examine how Garrett has played this year. Unsurprisingly, the 29-year-old defensive end is having another All-Pro caliber season with a league-leading 10 sacks. He also has 15 tackles for loss. Five of those sacks came in Week 8 against the New England Patriots, so it’s clear he’s operating at full strength right now.

All of Garrett’s sacks haven’t translated to the win column, though. Cleveland is 2-6 and last in the AFC North, and shipping off Garrett would return a great haul of draft picks to aid in its rebuild.

It’s also important to remember that Garrett requested a trade this offseason. He eventually re-signed with the Browns on a four-year, $160 million contract in March, but the trade rumors have picked up again after he threw his helmet in anger during Cleveland’s loss to New England.

If traded, Garrett’s huge contract would have to be taken on by a new team, which would provide stability to a new team since he’s already signed. That’s why Smith thinks multiple first-round picks would have to go back to the Browns in this hypothetical trade.

It would be a high asking price, but it would have the potential to pay off incredibly for Seattle. A Seahawks defensive line featuring Garrett, Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy, and DeMarcus Lawrence would be a nightmare for any offensive line.

What Would the Browns Get in Boye Mafe or Derick Hall?

Under Smith’s trade proposal, the two first-round picks and a third-round pick are the best parts of the deal. Still, Cleveland would want a young edge player back to replace Garrett.

One of Mafe or Hall would go to the Browns in this scenario. Mafe, 26, hasn’t produced much this year with zero sacks, one tackle for loss, and two passes defended through seven games. However, he had six sacks last year and nine sacks in 2023.

Hall, 24, has also seen his production drop following a great 2024 season, partly due to an oblique injury that has sidelined him for two games. While he has yet to record a sack or TFL this year, he shined as an NFL sophomore in 2024 with eight sacks, six TFLs, and two forced fumbles.
