The Detroit Lions, as usual, gave off a stunning performance this season. With a 5-2 record, they proved their caliber this season and placed themselves among the top teams in the NFL.

The Lions bounced back nicely after an unexpected Week 1 loss against the Packers on the road and became stronger. Assessing the season’s performance, it is safe to say they are legitimate Super Bowl contenders, and these are the reasons for their success:

Detroit Lions Have a Strong Defensive Game

The Lions’ defense ranks fifth in yards per game allowed at 87.7. Moreover, contenders have run the ball around 155 times this season. Furthermore, the offense stands tall, abandoning the run against the Lions to stay in the game. The team also ranks 11th at 4.0 in yards. On top of that, their EPA per snap stands at 13th.

The team is good in its run defense and has promising tackles, with a 57.7% tackle success rate. Aidan Hutchinson has been dominant and leads the team with 48 pressures. He also ranks second in pass rush, just below Micah Parsons.

Depth and Dan Campbell’s Grit Build a playoff-ready roster

Dan Campbell keeps the team disciplined. The team tried fourth downs 13 times and made 8. Moreover, strategic decision-maker GM Brady Holmes had new contracts with key players like Giff and ST Brown. Backups also work fine, with the O-line staying on top. DJ Reader helps the defense.

Furthermore, Defensive Coordinator Kelvin Sheppard’s impact was discernible in the team’s win against the Buccaneers. The defense held the Buccaneers to a season-low point total despite multiple injuries to key players in the secondary. A film review highlighted this as one of the team’s best defensive performances under his leadership.

Explosive Offense is An Advantage

The team’s offense was less explosive this season, but it’s still doing well. With outstanding separation skills, top-tier offensive players like Amon-Ra St. Brown managed 7 receiving touchdowns and 538 receiving yards in 7 games, leading the team in targets. He also threw a touchdown pass to Jahmyr Gibbs.

With the stunning performance this season, the team really stands out.
