Allen Park — Dan Campbell will be having his morning coffee at home this week.
As the Detroit Lions prepare to enter the bye week, the head coach said he’s placing importance on his players and staff getting some crucial rest and relaxation.
“I’m cutting the staff loose tonight, but I gave them some things I want to see, work at their leisure when they get back,” Campbell explained Tuesday.
“I want just a couple of answers on a few things that I wanted them to look out for, but I think it’s important they get away. I do, man. This’ll be the last chance we get a bit of time to (relax) — no different than the players.”
The bye week will be crucial on a couple of fronts. For one, it’ll give injured players a chance to heal without worrying about preparing for a game. That list of players includes offensive tackle Taylor Decker (shoulder), cornerback Terrion Arnold (shoulder), safeties Kerby Joseph (knee) and Brian Branch (ankle/foot).
But it’ll also give the Lions an opportunity to diagnose some key issues that have been plaguing the team. Campbell said their offensive third-down efficiency is one area where he wants to get a closer look.
