Packers HC Matt LaFleur not concerned with Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers revenge game narrative

Steelers vs. Packers: HC Matt LaFleur downplays facing Aaron Rodgers

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers has a tall ask in front of him for Week 8 — facing off against his former Green Bay Packers under the Sunday Night Football lights. But if you asked HC Matt LaFleur, competing against Rodgers is just another football game.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, LaFleur shot down any extra narrative surrounding the Packers facing off against Rodgers — arguably the greatest quarterback in Green Bay history.

“We’re playing the Pittsburgh Steelers, who happen to have Aaron Rodgers,” LaFleur told reporters on Monday. “It’s as simple as that. That is for you guys to talk about. Granted, we’ve got a lot of respect and love for Aaron. What he’s done here — I mean, he’s a Hall of Famer. I know our past together; we had a lot of great moments, but this game is not about that.

“It’s about going to Pittsburgh, Sunday Night Football — our guys will be jacked up, their guys will be jacked up. It’s about the Green Bay Packers versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s for you guys to talk about, all those other storylines.”

While LaFleur downplayed the revenge-game angle or any additional feelings about facing his former quarterback, there’s no doubt Rodgers would love to one-up his former protégé in Packers QB Jordan Love — as the two go head-to-head for Sunday Night Football on October 26 at 8:20 p.m. EDT.
