The New England Patriots have won three straight games.
After putting up a clunker in week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Patriots have won four of their last five.
New England sits at 4-2. The only other loss was against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 3, a game in which the Patriots could have easily won, and the Pats beat themselves.
The biggest win of the season for the Pats came in week five, a road matchup against the Buffalo Bills. New England won that game 23-20.
New England is rolling and playing well on offense and defense. With a 4-2 record and a win on the road against the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots are to be taken seriously once again.
New England Patriots Win Third Straight Game
The Patriots won a second straight road game in week 6 and their third straight game overall. They defeated the New Orleans Saints 25-19. New Orleans was moving the ball well in the first half and had 16 points at halftime. New England’s defense clamped down and only allowed a field goal in the second half.
Drake Maye continues to get better with each game. He went 18/26 for 261 passing yards, three passing TDs, and added 28 rushing yards. Here is Maye’s postgame interview with CBS Sports’ Aditi Kinkhabwala.

Kayshon Boutte had a breakout performance. He recorded five catches on five targets for 93 receiving yards and two receiving TDs. Demario Douglas had three catches, 71 receiving yards, and a receiving TD.
While the passing attack was on point, the rushing attack was nonexistent for the Patriots. Maye told Aditi Kinkhabwala that the running game needs to improve. Treveyon Henderson had nine carries for just 27 rushing yards. Rhamondre Stevenson fared even worse, recording just 18 rushing yards on 13 carries. Maye actually led the team in rushing yards in week 6.
The Patriots did not turn the ball over.. New England won the turnover battle 1-0 and the sack battle 2-1. Winning the turnover game and recording more sacks than your opponent is a great recipe for success.
With the win, the Patriots move to 4-2 and are in a position to compete for the AFC East crown.
It’s Time To Take The New England Patriots Seriously Again
After two straight road wins, one against the Buffalo Bills, it is time to take the New England Patriots seriously again.
Mike Vrabel has done wonders for the Patriots. He is a great head coach and is thriving in New England.
Vrabel, along with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, is getting the best out of QB Drake Maye. Maye is top six in the league in passing yards. He has a 10/2 TD/INT ratio. Maye also has two rushing TDs to go along with 138 rushing yards on the season. He is completing a whopping 73.2% of his passes.
One other major improvement Vrabel has brought is improving the defense. In 2024, the Patriots allowed 24.5 points per game, which ranked 21st in the league. This season, the Patriots have allowed 20.0 points per game, which is tied for seventh best in the league. Last season, New England allowed 131.4 rushing yards per game, which ranked 22nd in the league. This season, the Patriots are only allowing 83.5 rushing yards per game, which is fourth best.
With Maye continually improving and the defense looking much better, the Patriots are a threat in the AFC.
The schedule for the Patriots is not daunting at all, which will allow the Pats to rack up wins.
Patriots Have Easy Remaining Schedule
While it may be too premature to think the Patriots will dethrone the Bills and win the AFC East, the schedule may allow the Pats to make a strong push.
Here is the remaining schedule for the Patriots:
-
- Week 7: @ Tennessee Titans
- Week 8: vs Cleveland Browns
- Week 9: vs Atlanta Falcons
- Week 10: @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Week 11: vs New York Jets
- Week 12: @ Cincinnati Bengals
- Week 13: vs New York Giants
- Week 14: Bye Week
- Week 15: vs Buffalo Bills
- Week 16: @ Baltimore Ravens
- Week 17: @ New York Jets
- Week 18: vs Miami Dolphins
Based on the schedule, the Patriots have three difficult matchups remaining. Week 10 at Tampa Bay, week 15 vs Buffalo, and assuming Lamar Jackson returns and remains healthy, a week 16 road matchup against the Baltimore Ravens presents the biggest challenge for the Pats.
With a 4-2 record, the Patriots could be looking at a 7-2 record before facing the Bucs in week 10. Atlanta could be tricky as they have playmakers, but they have not shown to be a threat in the NFC, and Michael Penix has not shown to be a legitimate franchise QB.
Joe Burrow will not play in their week 12 contest against the Bengals.
The final two games for the Patriots are very winnable.
New England has a chance to make some noise in the AFC.
It is possible the Patriots only lose three more games, which would give them a record of 12-5. This could put them in contention to dethrone the Bills in the AFC East, but like the Patriots, the Bills’ schedule is not very daunting as well.
The AFC East will be a division to watch. It is a two-team race between the Bills and the Pats.
Mike Vrabel is a strong candidate for Coach of the Year.
