After the Bengals’ stunning decision to trade for Joe Flacco, it’s clear they’re not quite ready to give up on the season, even though star quarterback Joe Burrow isn’t expected to return until December.
Star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson has been involved in trade talks since the summer, but if the Bengals were aggressive enough to trade for a new interim QB, it feels unlikely that they’d be willing to trade Hendrickson in the middle of the season.

It takes a lot for an organization to completely blow up a team, especially in the middle of the season. The Bengals have made it clear that they will have a new quarterback for two months, which is already a ginormous change in the locker room. If Cincinnati truly wanted to make a move involving Hendrickson, they certainly wouldn’t have made an upgrade at quarterback.
Trading for Hendrickson makes sense for the Cowboys, as he’s the closest thing to Micah Parsons they can get. It also works for the Bengals, whose playoff hopes are fading fast and who could use the cap relief and draft capital. The only holdup? Team owner and president. Mike Brown.
Brown has been involved with the Bengals since 1968 and has been the owner since 1991. He’s only come across a player like Hendrickson less than a handful of times in his tenure. Brown’s handling of the Shemar Stewart situation also shows how stubborn he is.
General manager Duke Tobin is ultimately the one calling the shots and was actually the one to put together the Flacco trade, according to head coach Zac Taylor, but Brown definitely has a huge voice in personnel decisions as well.
Getting Hendrickson would solve a lot of Dallas’ defensive woes, but any hopes likely went up in smoke when the Bengals traded for Flacco. The Cowboys’ only hope is that Cincinnati continues to lose games and fall further out of the playoff picture with Flacco under center.
