Chiefs Named 3 x Pro Bowler's Preferred Destination After Suspension

The Kansas City Chiefs may need to look inward after racking up their third loss of the year on Monday night in week 5 at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes spent much of the prime time game doing his best 2018 Lamar Jackson impression, as he made multiple big plays through off-schedule scrambles as his starting wideouts failed to get open.

Although the 3 x Super Bowl champion has done admirably with what he’s had to work with – and still has WR1, Rashee Rice, yet to return to the fold as he serves a six-game suspension – the Chiefs are far from set at receiver at this point in time.

So it could potentially perk head coach, Andy Reid, and the rest of the team’s ears up to hear that a certain former All-Pro and very big name wideout has potentially set his sights on the Chiefs as his next destination.

At least, these are the words of ex New York Giant and Cleveland Brown, Odell Beckham Jr.

Odell Beckham Jr. Reveals He Was Previously In Talks With The Chiefs

Speaking on The Pivot Podcast, which was posted on Tuesday, Beckham revealed that he had had some discussions with the Chiefs prior to the 2024 season – which the team did not ultimately take him up on.

“So as far as teams,” Beckham said on The Pivot Podcast, “I went to the Giants-KC game and I joked with Kansas City. I was like “I literally only asked y’all for $3 million”. And just respect because I know what I’m going to bring outside of my value just to football. I know what I’m a bring to your yonger receivers in the locker room. I know what I’m a bring as a man to the team; I know my energy.”

The former three-time Pro Bowler also half-joked that the team “could have had another ring” if he had been present, before conceding that even with his presence, it would have been difficult for Kansas City to overcome Saquon Barkley and co.

Would A Move To Kansas City Make Sense For OBJ?

In subsequently listing teams that he could be interested in joining after his recently announced six-game suspension for PED usage, Beckham Jr. put KC front and center of his NFL wish-list.

I don’t know if this is even a pitch, but I look at the LA Rams, I look at the Steelers…the Chiefs“, Beckham said, before also stating that he would like to don the Giants outfit one last time prior to retiring.

The former first round pick, who most recently spent time with the Miami Dolphins, would certainly be an interesting addition to Kansas City’s receiving corps, to put it mildly.

Since having a small career renaissance in Los Angeles, as he helped the team win Super Bowl LVI, Beckham Jr. has had stints with the Ravens and the Dolphins.

An OK spell in Baltimore in 2023, which never quite justified the $15 million the team spent on his one-year deal was followed by a dismal 2024 year that saw him record just 9 receptions in 9 games for a total of 55 yards.

At this point, particularly since the Chiefs’ receiving corps is starting to get healthier and more available – Xavier Worthy managed to overcome some ankle soreness over the weekend to start his second consecutive game – OBJ’s presence would likely be more hassle than he’s worth at this late stage of the career of the man who will turn 33 years old in November.
