Latest Xavier Worthy injury updates for Chiefs vs Jaguars for Week 5

The Chiefs and Jaguars will play on Monday Night Football to close out Week 5 in the NFL.

Baltimore Ravens v Kansas City Chiefs

That so much attention is being paid to Xavier Worthy’s availability for Week 5 speaks to his importance to the Kansas City Chiefs’ plans. Fortunately, the latest report has some good news for Chiefs Kingdom as K.C. gets ready for a road game in Jacksonville.

The Chiefs are set to face the Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on Monday Night Football to close out Week 5 in the NFL. Heading into the game, Worthy was listed as a late addition on the team’s injury report with a questionable designation with both shoulder and ankle injuries. Last-second changes to an injured list are never good, so the concern for Worthy and the state of the offense was clear heading into game day.

According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, the listing might have been precautionary more than anything. Speaking on Good Morning Football, Rapoport had a positive update for Chiefs fans.

“My understanding is [Worthy] kinda just turned his ankle a little bit, woke up swollen, put it on the report. He is fine. He is expected to go. More of a precaution than anything else,” he said.

While the situation hasn’t fully resolved, Rapoport’s report echoes other encouraging rumors that the Chiefs’ former first-round pick might be able to go after such an exciting return to the field in Week 4. The Chiefs offense found its catalyst a week ago when Worthy rejoined his teammates in a dominant win over the Baltimore Ravens. It was the sort of jolt that Patrick Mahomes and company had been waiting for after trying to force things offensively with limited personnel.

Worthy led the team in both receiving and rushing yards in Week 4 with 121 yards from scrimmage total, and his presence on the field opens everything else up for the Chiefs. Given that the Jaguars are putting together a nice 3-1 record so far with a stout defense that insists on taking the ball away, Worthy will be a major factor if available.

The Chiefs originally lost Worthy to start the season with a torn labrum after an accidental collision with Travis Kelce forced him to sit out Week 1 from the first offensive series of the season. Worthy missed both Weeks 2 and 3 before returning against the Ravens.
