Chiefs vs. Ravens live updates: Score, analysis, highlights for AFC showdown - CBSSports.com

At halftime of an integral showdown between two recent AFC powerhouses that are off to slow starts to the 2025 season, the Kansas City Chiefs lead the visiting Baltimore Ravens 20-10.

The Ravens actually got off to a fast start in this one, marching right down the field for a 70-yard touchdown drive on their first possession of the afternoon. Kansas City answered by driving deep into Ravens territory, but the Chiefs stalled out inside the red zone and had to settle for a field goal to cut the early lead to 7-3.

After opening the game with a touchdown toss to Justice Hill and improving on his league-best passing numbers, Lamar Jackson made his first big mistake of the year when he threw a ball up for grabs while under pressure on the Ravens’ next possession. Leo Chenal came away with an interception on the play, and it led to another Chiefs field goal to cut into Baltimore’s lead again.

The Ravens then went backward on their next trip, with Jackson taking a pair of delay-of-game penalties and an intentional grounding call. The Chiefs finally took advantage of a red zone opportunity on their ensuing possession, with Patrick Mahomes finding JuJu Smith-Schuster in the front of the end zone to give Kansas City its first lead of the afternoon.

Baltimore got to fourth-and-1 on its next trip, and without Derrick Henry on the field, the Chiefs sent an all-out blitz and forced Lamar to throw the ball away. Set up with great field position for their next drive, the Chiefs again capitalized, this time with a touchdown pass from Mahomes to Isiah Pacheco — the 250th touchdown toss of Mahomes’ career. He became the youngest player ever to reach that milestone in the process.

Set up with a two-minute drill and an opportunity to cut into Kansas City’s lead, the Ravens instead turned the ball over again as Jackson ran into his own teammate while trying to scramble up the middle on third-and-1 and fumbled it away. That left the Chiefs with strong field position once again, but Kansas City was only able to move the ball a few yards and set up yet another field goal attempt for Harrison Butker, who hooked the ball wide to the left.

With just 26 seconds remaining in the half following Butker’s miss, Jackson was able to engineer the Ravens into range for a Tyler Loop field goal, which cut Kansas City’s halftime lead to 10 points.

Will the Chiefs hold onto their lead, or will the Ravens stage a comeback? We’ll find out soon enough. In the meantime, keep it locked to our live blog throughout the rest of the afternoon as we update you with stats, scores and highlights.

Ravens miss on fourth down again

After Derrick Henry was stuffed on a third-and-1 rushing attempt, Rush just straight up threw the ball away on fourth down. Chiefs are set up with terrific field position to try to extend their lead once again.

COOPER RUSH IN FOR LAMAR JACKSON

Jackson doesn’t have his helmet on and was being tended to by trainers on the sideline. He has a hamstring injury and is QUESTIONABLE to return. Backup Cooper Rush is in.

Chiefs add FG to their lead

Kansas City has yet to punt in this game after adding yet another Harrison Butker field goal on its latest drive. The only Chiefs possession to not result in points was Butker’s missed field goal. The Ravens need to get their offense into gear quickly to make a comeback from three scores down.

Ravens defenders OUT

Neither Marlon Humphrey (calf) nor Roquan Smith (hamstring) will return to this game due to their injuries.

Ravens stopped on third-and-short, kick FG

Tony Romo keeps pointing this out on the broadcast, but this is the second time the Ravens have been stopped in an “and-short” opportunity when they did not have Derrick Henry on the field. They ended up settling for a field goal to cut the lead to 14 points, rather than being able to come away with a touchdown.

That was a fast scoring drive by Kansas City, which went down the field for a touchdown in just 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Tyquan Thornton wound up open in the middle of the end zone and Mahomes fired a bullet over the top of a linebacker and in before the closing safety. Chiefs’ lead is back to three scores.

Ravens injuries showing

Baltimore’s defensive line is getting handled up front right now. With so many injuries to the opposing side, the Chiefs are getting push in the run game and keeping Mahomes upright when he drops back to pass.

Ravens capitalize on Butker’s miss

With just 26 seconds remaining in the half, Lamar Jackson engineered the Ravens into field goal range for Tyler Loop after Harrison Butker’s own field goal attempt hooked wide to the left. That was Baltimore’s first score since its opening drive of the game. Chiefs lead 20-10 at the break and get the ball coming out for the second half.

Lamar fumble

The Ravens keep shooting themselves in the foot. This is Lamar Jackson’s second turnover of the game after he didn’t have any through the first three weeks of the season. He ran into his own man and dropped the ball. (And as we know, Derrick Henry had already lost a fumble in each of the first three games.)

Mahomes’ 250th touchdown pass

The Pacheco TD was the 250th touchdown pass of Patrick Mahomes’ career. He broke Dan Marino’s record as the youngest player ever to reach 250 passing scores.

Pacheco extends the lead

Kansas City has now capitalized on back-to-back red zone trips with touchdowns after kicking field goals on its first two possessions. This time it’s Isiah Pacheco in the flat for a score to push the lead to double digits.

More injuries for the Ravens

Marlon Humphrey and Roquan Smith are both QUESTIONABLE to return. Injuries piling up for this Baltimore defense.

Ravens stopped on fourth down

Without Derrick Henry not in the game on fourth-and-1, the Chiefs again brought the house in an important spot and Lamar simply had to throw the ball away. Kansas City is set up with great field position and can look to extend its lead to two scores here.

JuJu Smith-Schuster TD

JuJu finds the end zone

Really nice job by Patrick Mahomes to fire the ball into a tight window. He found JuJu right between two defenders in the front of the end zone. The ball got through the window so quickly that the defenders crashed into each other while the ball wound up in JuJu’s hands. KC’s first red-zone touchdown of the game puts the Chiefs in the lead for the first time.

Worthy making his presence felt

Xavier Worthy already had a big catch down the field and now he’s got a big run on an end around. The Chiefs have desperately needed the kinds of explosive plays in their offense, and he’s providing them early on.

Ravens move backwards

The crowd might be affecting Baltimore’s offense here. The Ravens took two delay-of-game penalties within three snaps. After an intentional grounding call on Lamar Jackson and then a give-up screen on third down, Baltimore punts it back to the Chiefs.

Chiefs stall again, kick another field goal

Kansas City is now 0-2 on red-zone opportunities in this game. The Chiefs got first-and-goal from the 5-yard line but had a shovel pass blown up on first down and then Mahomes had to throw the ball away on second and third because nobody was open. Ravens lead is now 7-6 as the Chiefs turned the Lamar Jackson pick into three points.

Big potential injury for the Ravens

Chiefs hit the deep ball

This is why Kansas City needs Xavier Worthy on the field. He has the type of speed to create open passes down the field, rather than the type of contested ones that the Chiefs have been throwing so far this year. Really nice throw and catch by Mahomes and Worthy.

Leo Chenal INT

Leo Chenal picks Lamar

Steve Spagnuolo brought the house on a blitz and forced Lamar Jackson into his first mistake. Kansas City’s blitzed have generally not been getting home this year but that one was successful in forcing a turnover on a great play by Chenal, who went up and got the ball over Mark Andrews.

Chiefs stall, settle for field goal

Isiah Pacheco dropped a screen pass on second-and-6 and it led to Kansas City stalling out in the red zone. Harrison Butker chipped in a field goal, but the Chiefs still do not have a first-quarter touchdown on the year.

Chiefs convert fourth down

Kansas City knows it can’t just punt the ball back to this explosive Ravens offense today. Faced with fourth-and-3 after a drop by rookie RB Brashard Smith, the Chiefs ran a simple rub route for Xavier Worthy to pick up a first down and keep the drive going.

Justice Hill TD

Ravens take an early lead

Justice Hill gets the scoring started on a designed interior flip screen. The Ravens invited the pass rush in and Lamar Jackson found Hill underneath with a cadre of blockers to lead him into the end zone. Great drive by Baltimore, which romped 70 yards on 9 plays in 5 minutes and 25 seconds before getting on the board.

Mark Andrews involved early

Andrews combined for 2 catches for 7 yards in the first two games of the season. He went off for 6 catches for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns last week and is involved early on here, opening the game with back-to-back receptions.

WATCH: Chris Jones arrives for the game

What to watch

Here are a few things to watch once this game begins:

  • Ravens run defense: Kansas City has a high rushing success rate this season but ZERO explosive runs from its running backs. Baltimore has been vulnerable on the ground, but can’t afford to get gashed by this group.
  • Xavier Worthy’s return: The Chiefs passing game has struggled to get off the ground so far but is getting back one of its top two receivers here. We’ll have to see if his speed opens things up for Patrick Mahomes.
  • Derrick Henry’s ball security: Henry has lost a fumble in each of the first three games of the season.
  • Lamar Jackson through the air: Jackson, the NFL’s all-time passer rating leader, is averaging a league-best 9.6 yards per attempt with 9 touchdowns and no interceptions. The Chiefs have been somewhat leaky through the air, so Lamar should have more chances to get going here.
