Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters on Monday via Zoom to discuss the recovery progress of wide receiver Xavier Worthy and his chances of playing in last week’s game.
“He was real positive coming in and he was mentally. He was saying I’m going to play in the game and you kind of have to take that approach with that type of an injury, and he did,” said Reid. “He came out and practiced and did the best that he could. But it just wasn’t right. Between Xavier and the doctors, we thought it was best if he didn’t play.”
Reid’s initial outlook seems promising as he looks ahead to Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens. Worthy has been missed in the offense, but Tyquan Thornton has stepped into his role significantly well over the last two games.
Last season’s home opener featured then-rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy as one of Kansas City’s top performers against the Ravens, after scoring two touchdowns and combining for 68 yards on three touches.
