Russell Wilson crashes back down to earth as Giants drop to 0-3 after hanging with Chiefs - Yahoo Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs avoided their first 0-3 start since 2011 by beating the New York Giants 22-9 on Sunday night. Despite early mistakes and penalties, the Chiefs controlled the second half and earned their first win of the season, improving to 1-2. The Giants dropped to 0-3 after another sluggish offensive performance.

Patrick Mahomes completed 22 of 37 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown, connecting with Tyquan Thornton through the air and setting up a Kareem Hunt 1-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Mahomes also recovered his own fumble earlier in the game and added a highlight 33-yard pass to Thornton on the decisive drive. Isiah Pacheco led Kansas City’s ground game with 45 yards on 10 carries.

The Chiefs’ defense held New York to just one third-down conversion on 10 attempts and forced two interceptions from quarterback Russell Wilson, who finished 18 of 32 for 160 yards. Rookie Cam Skattebo was a bright spot for the Giants with 121 total yards and a rushing touchdown, while Malik Nabers was limited to two catches for 13 yards. Linebacker Nick Bolton led Kansas City with 14 tackles as the defense bottled up New York’s passing attack and controlled the second half.
