Any excitement that Dallas Cowboys fans had for the team’s Week 3 clash against the Chicago Bears went up in smoke after CeeDee Lamb hobbled off the field on the offense’s first possession.

Lamb has been ruled out for the rest of the game. He came back for one play, and the FOX broadcast showed him pull up at the end of his route and gesturing toward the sideline for a substitution as he could hardly push off his ankle.

The FOX broadcast also showed a slow-motion replay of how Lamb got injured. Fair warning to click at your own risk, as the clip shows Lamb’s ankle getting rolled up on by a falling Bears defender as he was chased toward the sideline. You can watch the video behind this link.

Yeah, that does not look good for No. 88.

You can see Lamb’s ankle get caught underneath the Bears defensive back. The broadcast later showed how swollen Lamb’s ankle is.

A potential high-ankle sprain means Lamb could miss up to 4-8 weeks. He’d be a candidate for injured reserve, which would knock him out for a minimum of four games. Micah Parsons missed four games last season with a high-ankle sprain, but he was not put on IR.

The Cowboys won’t know anything until Lamb gets tested, which won’t happen until the team lands back in Dallas following Sunday’s game. A low-ankle sprain might be the best-case scenario. Depending on the severity, NFL players can return from low-ankle sprains in 1-3 weeks.

All we can do is speculate until Brian Schottenheimer – or Jerry Jones – addresses the media postgame, but it’s hard not to think Lamb will miss a chunk of time after seeing how his ankle got twisted as he was tackled.

The good news is Lamb is as tough as they come. He played through an AC joint sprain in his shoulder for several games last year before he was shut down after the Cowboys were eliminated from playoff contention. He’ll suit up if he can, but it’s hard to be optimistic right now.
