First-quarter ankle injury ends CeeDee Lamb's day in Chicago

CHICAGO – Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears as the second half began with a left ankle injury.

Lamb suffered the injury in the first quarter, when he lined up as a running back in the back field behind Dak Prescott and was tackled awkwardly as he tried to bounce it to the outside.

After walking off the field under his own power, Lamb was examined by the Cowboys’ training staff on the bench for a few minutes before he removed his left cleat and went to the blue medical tent.

Initially, Lamb was ruled questionable to return and did come back on the field for the first play of the second quarter. On that play, Lamb came across in motion and was in clear discomfort, returning to the bench and staying there for the remainder of the half.

Last season, Lamb dealt with a shoulder injury for most of the back half of the year before missing Dallas’ last few games of the year.

Coming into Sunday’s game, Lamb had put up back-to-back 100 yard receiving performances and had four in a row dating back to last season. Lamb’s carry was his only touch of the game, as he did not catch a pass.

The good sign for Dallas was Lamb walking up and down the sideline on his own power, and not being sent back to the locker room in the first half.

Now, Dallas hopes that the injury is not a severe one. The Cowboys return to AT&T Stadium next week to face the Green Bay Packers.
