The latest Kansas City Chiefs injury report understandably caught fan attention, with Patrick Mahomes included without warning. It wasn’t just the fact that Mahomes was on the injury report, but the type of injury listed. A right wrist injury is alarming, with Mahomes taking far more punishment due to being forced to carry the rushing attack. Already over 100 yards on the season, there have been multiple big collisions that could’ve caused the injury.

Regardless, fans shouldn’t panic despite the understandable anxiety.

New York Giants Week 3: A Look at the Kansas City Chiefs Defense

Whatever the exact nature of the wrist injury might be, it wasn’t concerning enough for the signal caller to be limited in any way. Mahomes was listed as a full participant in both practices, and there is no hint of concern from Kansas City’s coaching staff. While it is obviously never ideal to have your best player listed, Mahomes’ injury history proves fans have nothing to worry about heading into Week 3.

Chiefs vs. Giants Week 3 Dunkel NFL Picks, Predictions and Odds

It seems at least once a season, Mahomes suffers an ankle sprain or leg injury that appears severe enough to cause substantial missed time. However, the very next week, the starter is going to be on the field making plays as if nothing had happened. It seems most likely that it is simply a small issue that the Chiefs are listing simply to cover their bases. Everything about the tone of the franchise and its leaders suggests zero reason for alarm.

Consider as well the fact that even when Xavier Worthy went down, the front office added receiver depth to the practice squad. Carrying three quarterbacks on gameday is a must, leaving reason to believe that if Mahomes had any concern about his status, there would’ve already been a move made to put an emergency option behind Gardner Minshew.

With this in mind, the anxiety over the report is understandable but misplaced. Kansas City is perfectly set up for a bounce-back win that is going to change the tone of the season. The coaching staff understands that Mahomes has taken far too much punishment in the first weeks of the season and will have a strategy in place to minimize this.

As long as the quarterback takes advantage of a struggling Giants defense and chooses his spot to run, this week should be an outlier for an iron man of a competitor. Leaving no legitimate reasons for concern heading into a pivotal Week 3.
