The Dallas Cowboys are biding their time until they get some big names back from injury, but the injury report has looked pretty thin through two weeks, all things considered. DeMarvion Overshown, DaRon Bland, and Shavon Revel Jr. will be massive energizers for the defense once they’re healthy.
Unfortunately, the offense suffered its first big blow in the form of Cooper Beebe, who was put on IR and will miss 6-8 weeks with a lateral foot sprain suffered in Sunday’s win over the Giants.
Cowboys fans were also given a scare with KaVontae Turpin, who left the game with a neck injury. Football fans know how scary neck injuries can be, but it appears Turpin avoided the worst as he was listed as a full participant on Thursday’s injury report after being spotted at Wednesday’s walkthrough.
Cowboys get welcomed update on KaVontae Turpin’s neck injury
Turpin was spotted in a brace after the win. He noted that his neck was stiff, but he was in good spirits as teammates made fun of him for wearing a brace, per NFL Network’s Jane Slater. That Turpin is only limited and not a DNP suggests this isn’t a long-term injury.
It sure seems like Turpin is trending in the direction of playing this Sunday against the Bears. Cowboys fans would have taken losing Turpin for one game as a worthwhile consolation prize. That he may not miss any time at all would be a huge escape.
Turpin has emerged as one of Dallas’ most important players. On top of averaging 22.6 yards per kickoff return, Turpin suddenly has a featured role in the offense. He caught all four targets for 47 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 to go with two carries for six yards.
Much to the satisfaction of Cowboys fans, Brian Schottenheimer is going out of his way to get Turpin involved in ways that Mike McCarthy didn’t. He should continue to have favorable matchups while CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens command the attention of opposing defenses. It stands to reason that Turpin’s role will only increase once he’s back at full strength.
The All-Pro return man isn’t out of the woods yet in terms of getting cleared to face the Bears, but Cowboys fans should take his overall status as a win, given the unforgiving nature of neck injuries.
