BREAKING : Packers reach 1-year, $13.25 million extension with WR Christian Watson amid ACL recovery

Packers reach 1-year, $13.25 million extension with WR Christian Watson amid ACL recovery - Yahoo Sports

Christian Watson’s contract uncertainty is now behind him.

Watson, who is currently recovering from a torn ACL, reached a one-year, $13.25 million contract extension with the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday night, his agent told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Watson had a career-high 620 yards and two touchdowns on 29 catches last season, his third with the Packers after they selected him with the No. 34 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State. He had a team-high 21.4 yards per catch, too.

Watson went down with a torn ACL in the team’s loss to the Chicago Bears in the final game of the regular season last year. He’s been recovering ever since, and started this season on the physically unable to perform list. It’s unclear when Watson will be able to take the field again, but the team is hopeful that he can make it back for a good chunk of the season this fall.

“It’s definitely tough. Anytime you have an injury like this, it’s definitely going to take its toll on you,” Watson said in August, via the Packers.

“But I’ve gone through a lot of adversity. Nothing like this, but I feel like I was calloused for it a little bit and I had the right mentality going into it and it’s been keeping that the whole way through.”

Watson was entering the final year of his initial four-year, $9.2 million deal with the team this fall, and would’ve had limited time on the field. Now with his extension, Watson will get another shot at a full contract year after his ACL injury before seeking a new long-term deal.

The Packers rolled over the Detroit Lions and grabbed a 27-13 win in their season-opener on Sunday. They’ll host the Washington Commanders next on Thursday night.
