BREAKING: Why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Skipped All the 2025 MTV VMAs After-Parties

Taylor Swift’s Iconic Career Evolution

After skipping the 2025 MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift and her fiancé, Travis Kelce, continued their night out of the public eye. The pair wasn’t spotted at any of the after-parties in New York. The choice wasn’t surprising, given Swift was only nominated for one award, Artist of the Year, which ultimately went to Lady Gaga. The singer will be back in the spotlight soon, though, as she gears up for her The Life of a Showgirl album release on October 3.

Kelce, meanwhile, started his weekend far from New York City. He and the Kansas City Chiefs played their NFL season opener on Friday in São Paulo, Brazil, against the Los Angeles Chargers. Swift didn’t attend that game, with sources telling TMZ it was a short trip, and none of the Chiefs players’ partners went. Kelce and his teammates returned to Kansas City, Missouri, right after.

Taylor Swift’s Iconic Career Evolution

This Sunday, the Chiefs will play against the Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium. It’s a face-off Swift herself could attend as she often goes to Kelce’s home games.

A source told People in June that Swift was “genuinely excited” about Kelce’s NFL season, since she has “the time and flexibility to show up for Travis more consistently.”

“This fall will be completely different,” the source said. “It’s the first season where she’s not constantly flying back and forth or working around an entire touring calendar.”

“Taylor plans to be at as many of his games as possible,” the insider added. “They’ve both had such demanding schedules for so long, so having this stretch of time where things aren’t quite as chaotic feels like a welcome change.”

Swift and Kelce are newly engaged, having announced the news just last month. A source told People that the couple isn’t rushing into wedding planning. “Taylor and Travis have been in celebration mode ever since the engagement,” a source close to them said on August 31. “They are not in the wedding planning phase yet.

“Right now they just want to enjoy being engaged and they are going to take their time with it,” the insider added. “It has been a relief not having to keep it a secret anymore, and they are glad it is out in the open.”

Kelce spoke on New Heights last week about how their wedding planning is “gonna go crazy” once it officially begins.
