Detroit Lions’ Marcus Davenport has fiery response to concerns over injury history

Detroit Lions' Marcus Davenport has fiery response to concerns over injury history image

If you ask any Detroit Lions fan what their biggest concern is with the pass-rush, it’s the fact that Marcus Davenport is prone to injury yet is set to play a key role.

Davenport is the starter opposite Aidan Hutchinson in 2025, and the Lions haven’t done much else at the position, including adding adequate depth.

This is Davenport’s second season with the Lions, and his first was marred by — you guessed it — injury. Davenport appeared in just two games before his season was cut short because of a torn triceps.

If you’ve followed our coverage of the Lions’ pass-rush concerns this season, you will have seen us put “Davenport” and “injury-prone” in the same sentence more times than we can count.

That isn’t just to be a jerk. It’s simply pointing out a very valid concern. Davenport has never played in a full season during his career and he has appeared in just six contests the past two seasons.

When talking to Kory Woods of MLive.com, Davenport made it quite clear that he does care about people calling him injury-prone, and he also had a fiery message.

“Shoot, of course I care. Man, look, I got a heart. My family reads stuff,” Davenport said. “And then there’s the other aspect: f*** em’. Honestly, I don’t want to say I get mad, but most people that talk s***, I will not trade places with.”

Pointing out Davenport’s injury history is not talking “s***.”

Instead, it’s a very valid analysis of a player and position that is a major concern for a Super Bowl team like Detroit. It is nothing personal.

Every single Lions fan and media member is rooting for Davenport to stay healthy and have the best season of his career, us included. Whether or not he can do that remains to be seen, though.

Davenport will look to begin the process of bucking the trend of his injury history when the Lions meet the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
