While the Packers have always been rivals, this game is going to be more intense than ever, because Green Bay just did a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for key defensive end Micah Parsons.
The Cowboys traded defensive end Micah Parsons in exchange for two first round picks from Green Bay and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. This was a massive move, and it’s been all the discussion in the NFL as of late. Green Bay is paying Parsons in the form of a four-year, $188 million dollar extension. So, should the Lions be worried? The answer is no, according to Lions head coach Dan Campbell. He has some strong words for anyone who thinks Green Bay is going to wreck the Lions in Week 1.

Speaking with the press on Monday, September 1, Campbell was asked about Parsons joining the Packers ahead of the team’s game against them. He didn’t flinch with his answer.
“We know what kind of player he is,” Campbell said. “He’s a really good player, but we’ll have a plan.”
It’s not just the words but the way Campbell said that they have a plan. It will be exciting to see what that plan entails.
Parsons has been dealing with an injury that kept him out of practice before his trade to the Packers. That could be good news for the Lions, if he isn’t ready for Week 1. But, now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has given an interesting update about the edge rusher’s injured back. Schefter said that Parsons is dealing with a sprain in his back that could require an epidural to play in the Packers’ Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions.
Injury Update on Micah Parsons
“Before trading Parsons last week, the Cowboys prescribed him a five-day plan of an anti-Inflammatory corticosteroid, a prednisone to help him recover from back tightness,” Schefter said in a post on X sent out on Monday, September 1. “They also had him on a physical therapy program.”
He added, “Parsons has been practicing this week and he is trying to play in Sunday’s opener vs. the Lions, though one source said it still is uncertain if he will.”
This update from Schefter came just hours after some videos circulated of Parsons practicing with the Packers. So, maybe they had to try to do some damage control.
With or without Parsons, Campbell is making it clear that his Detroit Lions are ready. It’s going to be a massive moment when these two teams take the field in Week 1 in Detroit.
