Despite fielding one of the best offenses in the NFL last season, the Green Bay Packers had a major issue with drops. Their 33 drops were tied for the third-most in the entire NFL, something that cannot be the case for a playoff team.

In fact, only the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets — two perennially bad franchises who combined for eight wins in 2024 — dropped more passes. The Packers made improving their wide receiver room a priority in the offseason as they selected Matthew Golden in the first round — the first time they drafted a wide receiver on Day 1 since 2002 — and Savion Williams in the third round.

That has led to plenty of speculation about how the franchise will handle the wide receivers already on the roster.

Packers shouldn’t even consider trading Romeo Doubs

Romeo Doubs has consistently been among the Packers’ three best wide receivers since the franchise selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. While he has missed eight games with injuries, he has recorded 1,700 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on 147 receptions.

Alex Kay of Bleacher Report recently suggested that Green Bay should send the wide receiver to the Los Angeles Chargers for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

“The 25-year-old has been a consistent piece in Green Bay’s system since he joined in 2022, but he was suspended a game for skipping practices due to discontent with his limited role in 2024,” writes Kay. “The veteran’s looks only project to diminish further this season, a potentially messy situation that the Packers should look to avoid.”

Kay makes some fair points about the Packers’ crowded receiving corps, along with Doubs’ previous suspension. However, it makes more sense to keep the veteran, especially with Green Bay going all-in after the Micah Parsons trade.

Doubs is set to hit free agency following the 2025 season and has struggled with 22 drops over the course of his three-year career. Still, the trade return is far too low for the Packers to consider giving up on the wide receiver — especially with a wide receiver room that has been depleted by injuries heading into the season.

Jayden Reed’s injury concern, in particular, makes it even less likely the Packers move on from Doubs.

Fortunately for Packers fans, head coach Matt LaFleur shut down the chatter of trading Doubs. He confidently expressed that the wide receiver will not be on the move, showing that the team values him much more than a seventh-round pick.
