The Kansas City Chiefs will soon leave for Brazil to play the Los Angeles Chargers in their season opener. The team has some players with nagging injuries, including their rookie wide receiver Jalen Royals.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed reporters via Zoom on Friday to share his thoughts on Royals’ status for Week 1.
“Jalen (Royals) continues to work to get himself better,” said Reid, “Yeah, there’s ā we’ll see how it goes, I mean it’ll be a, it’d be a real rush for this week for sure. So, it doesn’t look like he’ll probably make (it) this week, but should be ready to go as we go down the road here.”
Royals is recovering from a knee injury, so getting him ready for next Friday may not be realistic. The fourth round pick in April’s NFL Draft finished the preseason with three catches for 14 yards.
During his final college season, Royals was named second-team All-Mountain West. He led Utah State with 55 receptions, 834 receiving yards, and tallied six touchdowns while starting seven games.
