Dan Skipper is returning to the Detroit Lions, and he’s bringing a bunch of his friends with him.
The Lions signed Skipper and 14 other players to their practice squad Wednesday, all of whom were with the team in training camp.
Skipper, who spent last season as the team’s swing tackle, was a surprise cut when the Lions set their initial roster this week. The Lions kept Jamarco Jones as their No. 3 tackle, second-year lineman Gio Manu as a developmental prospect and Kayode Awosika and Kingsley Eguakun as backup interior linemen.
The Lions still have one opening on their 53-man roster, after trading receiver Tim Patrick to the Jacksonville Jaguars, signing ex-Jaguars safety Daniel Thomas and claiming defensive linemen Tyler Lacy and Tyrus Wheat off waivers.
For the second straight year, the Lions filled their practice squad with a mix of veterans and young players. They re-signed six of the seven veterans they released Tuesday and brought back nine players they waived.
They still have one open spot on their practice squad, and do not currently have a No. 3 quarterback on their practice squad or 53-man roster.
