The Cincinnati Bengals are trimming down their offseason roster to 53 players as the regular season is now next on the calendar.

Cincinnati exited training camp and preseason action with 90 players. 37 of them will have to be waived, released, placed on an injury list, etc. in order to comply with the 53-player maximum by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

The Bengals wrapped up the preseason with a 1-2 record, but Joe Burrow and the starting offense scored touchdowns on four of the five drives with its starting quarterback under center. The starting defense wasn’t nearly as promising, but defensive coordinator Al Golden made it clear he was holding back the majority of his calls to prevent regular season opponents from gaining any insight.

“Any blame on that goes absolutely on my shoulders,” Golden said last week. “That’s a decision that we made in conjunction with Zac [Taylor] and just trying to limit anybody’s purview in terms of what we’re doing.”

Cincinnati’s regular season begins with a Week 1 matchup against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Sept. 7.
