Analyst Names 2 Potential Upgrades For Chiefs Backfield

The Kansas City Chiefs had to patch their backfield together last season due to Isiah Pacheco’s broken leg that limited him to just seven games, and in his absence, guys like Kareem Hunt and Carson Steele had to step up to shoulder some of the workload left behind.

Pacheco is healthy and ready to roll heading into the 2025 season, but the RB room as a whole still has question marks with an aging Hunt now nursing a quad contusion, and third-stringer Elijah Mitchell has missed 41 games in four years, including all of last season due to a hamstring injury.

The questionable depth led insider Matt Miller to throw out the idea of Kansas City bringing in someone like Brian Robinson Jr. or Jaylen Wright to help give Pacheco more protection.

“Brian Robinson Jr. would be an upgrade over Pacheco or Hunt, but similar stylistically. If the Chiefs are to make a trade for a RB, they need someone with outside speed and receiving skills. If Miami adds Robinson Jr., I’d call about Jaylen Wright,” Miller posted on X.

The Washington Commanders have been strangely adamant about moving Robinson over the past week or so, and it’s looking like an inevitability at this point.

Robinson has posted at least 700 rushing yards in each of his three seasons in the league, while his yards per carry and rushing touchdown output have gone up each year.

He’d be a huge addition to this offense and be an ideal complement to Pacheco as more of a power back to complement Pacheco’s shiftiness and explosiveness.

Wright is a high-upside talent that the Miami Dolphins likely see as an ideal complement to De’Von Achane, but he didn’t show much explosiveness in his rookie year last season and is now dealing with a minor injury after leaving practice today while also fending off rookie Ollie Gordon II.

Pacheco is capable of handling the bulk of the workload, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see KC go out and bring in some more help.
