Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew addressed the media after last Friday night’s preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. He opened up about working with the first team offense and connecting with tight end Robert Tonyan for a touchdown.
“Man, anytime you get out there and get reps, it’s a good time. Glad to be working with some of the ones, just get my communication right, to be able to go out there and operate,” said Minshew, who led a successful touchdown drive during his stint. “Yeah, it was great, man. You want to score every time you get out there. Frustrated to get stopped there (on) fourth and one in the red zone. Great to get out there and get some points on the board.”
Minshew is entering his first season with Kansas City as the top backup for Patrick Mahomes. He’s shown instant chemistry with fellow veteran player Tonyan as his top target this preseason.
“He’s (Robert Tonyan) a super smart player, man. He has a great feel for space,” said Minshew, “Just got out there. He’s working with me. It was a good play by him.”
Minshew is 13 of 18 passing for 124 yards, a touchdown, and a rushing score through two preseason games.
