NEWS: Travis Kelce refuses autograph for young fan before Chiefs practice

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce was so locked in ahead of Wednesday’s practice that he even refused to even sign an autograph for a young fan.

Last season’s Super Bowl runners-up were hosting a session open to the public on Wednesday and it was inevitable that plenty of the members from Chiefs Kingdom were desperate to catch a glimpse of the tight end.

But as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend made his way out to the field at St. Joe’s, a young fan asked if he could trouble the tight end for an autograph.

‘Travis, can I get your signature?’ the kid called out.

‘Let me go learn how to play some football first, alright?’ Kelce responded as he walked on by, before greeting the other supporters in attendance.

There are plenty of opportunities at camp for fans to get signatures and selfies with their favorite players, so hopefully the young Chiefs supporter eventually gets a prized momento. And Kelce also regularly makes times for fans after practice.

Kelce, 35, is also scheduled to speak to media after Wednesday’s practice with his team.

The early reports out of camp suggest that after an offseason spent getting into the best shape possible, the three-time Super Bowl winner is already reaping the rewards of his hard work.

It comes after Kelce nearly retired following his team’s humbling 40-22 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans back in February.

At one stage, Kelce looked to all the world like he was about to call it a day but eventually decided that he didn’t want to end his career on such a low point.

Away from the football field, the Kelce family have endured a diffcult few days.

The girlfriend of Kelce’s father Ed, Maureen Maguire, passed away last Friday at the age of 74. Ed announced the news by sharing her obituary on his Facebook page.

Kelce’s parents had split up around the time that Travis and his brother Jason went to college but remain on good terms.

Maguire’s obituary doesn’t explain how she and Ed met but revealed how much football was an influence on her later years.

‘She also grew an unexpected love for football later in life, sharing many laughs and adventures with her beloved friend Ed Kelce and her loyal dog Butch,’ the obituary said.

‘Together, they traveled often and attended football games and concerts, and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest.’

The Chiefs start the new season on September 5 in Sau Paulo, Brazil, against the Los Angeles Chargers.
