BREAKING : Surprising Packers rookie could force Green Bay to make a tough decision

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Will Sheppard (82) participates in drills during practice on July 31, 2025, in Ashwaubenon, Wis.

The Green Bay Packers held their annual family night at Lambeau Field on Saturday, and fans were able to watch the team have an intrasquad scrimmage. Of course, the mock game led to a lot of takeaways as fans were able to assess who’s looking good in training camp and who has a lot of work to do. While it was just one night of practice, some things certainly seem clear.

One of those things is that rookie wide receiver Will Sheppard is a playmaker. During Saturday’s scrimmage, Sheppard made his fair share of catches, including a big touchdown catch. The performance had his name buzzing amongst fans, and now there’s a belief the undrafted rookie has a great chance of making the 53-man roster.

Will Sheppard has Packers fans excited after impressive performance at family night

While Sheppard’s name is buzzing after the impressive scrimmage performance, some fans are left asking if there is room for him on the roster. When Green Bay initially signed him, fans questioned the move because the team was already deep at wide receiver. With returning veterans like Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed, as well as rookies like Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, it was worth asking if Sheppard had a real chance of making the roster.

However, the rookie receiver hasn’t concerned himself with that. All he has done is controlled what he can control, and that’s making plays. If Sheppard can continue that for the rest of camp, and also put together a strong preseason, he will put pressure on the Packers to find a way to keep him on the roster. Whether that’s keeping an extra receiver or cutting a veteran wideout who was initially viewed as a lock, Sheppard could be on his way to stealing a roster spot.

Of course, the unfortunate reality of Sheppard having a great camp and still getting cut is also a possibility. If that happens, there could be a team ready to claim him, or the Packers would welcome him back on the practice squad.
