BREAKING NEWS : Packers reporter says what every fan feared about Jordan Morgan

Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jordan Morgan

As the Green Bay Packers inch closer to the regular season, they still don’t know Jordan Morgan’s best role.

He has been unable to crack the preferred starting lineup at tackle or guard, and we may have seen why during the Packers’ Family Night scrimmage on Saturday night. Morgan received a significant share of first-team reps at left tackle due to Rasheed Walker’s injury, but it showed he remains a long way off securing a starting job.

“A couple tough reps for Jordan Morgan in pass pro,” writes Peter Bukowski of The Leap. “Packers think he can play tackle, but we are waiting to see him show that.”

Packers offensive lineman Jordan Morgan still doesn’t look ready for a starting job

Morgan played exclusively at left tackle during his college days, but draft analysts predicted it wouldn’t translate to the NFL game due to his arm length. It’s still early, and Morgan has time to elevate his game, but those fears may be coming true.

There were multiple concerning moments during Family Night. Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette noted that Lukas Van Ness “bullrushed Jordan Morgan into Jordan Love’s lap.”

As Wendell Ferreira of A to Z Sports pointed out, second-round rookie Anthony Belton “feels more natural at tackle” than Morgan.

It’s fair criticism. Morgan hasn’t made the most of his opportunities this summer, and it’s clear the Packers still view Rasheed Walker as their starting left tackle and Sean Rhyan as their preferred right guard. Morgan is in a tough spot, competing at two vastly different positions but not showing enough in either to find a permanent home.

Is he a tackle or a guard? At this point, it’s fair to question whether he has played well enough at either spot. Perhaps rotating between two completely different positions has hurt his progress. That’s a question only the coaches can solve.

The good news? Morgan is still learning, and head coach Matt LaFleur put it best by noting there would be “hard lessons” for him to learn at tackle after barely playing there in his rookie season.

But any hopes of Morgan pushing his way into the starting lineup may need to be put on hold for now. The former first-rounder hasn’t shown anywhere near enough consistency at camp, and his Family Night performance may prove his future is at guard, not tackle.
