🚨 Chiefs Make Surprise Move: Kwamie Lassiter II Signed Amid WR Injury Crisis at Training Camp šŸ”„

Kansas City Chiefs sign Kwamie Lassiter II amid wide receiver injury crisis in training camp | Daily Mail Online

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed wide receiver Kwamie Lassiter II to bolster their depth chart amid injuries to a number of key players ahead of the new season.

Fitness problems are piling up for Andy Reid’s team in the position after Xavier Worthy entered the concussion protocol on Wednesday, which he will have to clear before returning to training camp.

The 22-year-old banged his head on the ground in Tuesday’s practice. He was competing for a deep pass and landed hard on the turf.

In addition to Worthy, the Chiefs were on the field Wednesday without Skyy Moore (hamstring) and Hollywood Brown (ankle).

The wide receiver position is something that has needed some thought from Reid and his fellow coaches, with Rashee Rice also expected to miss time through an NFL suspension due to his role in a Dallas car crash last March.

Last week Kansas City handed the opportunity of a lifetime to free agent receiver Hal Presley, signing him to their 90-man roster before the start of training camp.

The Chiefs had an open spot at wide receiver after Justyn Ross was cutĀ last week at his own request.

And now, with Worthy, Moore and Brown all out, they have added Lassiter to the depth chart.

The 27-year-oldĀ most recently played in the UFL with the Memphis Showboats. Undrafted out of Kansas, he spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Lassiter’s dad played safety in the NFL and had 25 career interceptions in 129 total games with the Arizona Cardinals (1995-2002), Los Angeles Chargers (2003) and Rams (2004).

Worthy had 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns and also rushed for three touchdowns in 17 games (13 starts) last season after being selected with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The rookie added three touchdown receptions in the playoffs, including two in the second half of the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
