Entering Wednesday, the training camp location at Missouri Western State University expected rain and storms.

At 9:38 am CT, it was revealed that the Chiefs are evacuating fans due to lightning in the St. Joseph area, per local media outlet KQ2.

The Chiefs team did stay on the field while the fans left the vicinity, according to KSHB 41 News.

Another report revealed that “lightning is visible in the distance” but not close enough to evacuate the Chiefs’ players as “fans have been cleared out in caution,” per Chiefs Digest.

The Chiefs have yet to share another update on the weather situation.

Kansas City’s evacuation decision comes six days after the team revealed they closed last Friday’s practice due to bad weather and flooding in the area.

The message was sent to fans shortly before the start of practice at 9:15 am CT.
