The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback competition, which includes former Colorado star Shedeur Sanders, received some significant news Sunday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday that one of Sanders’ fellow competitors, Kenny Pickett, injured his hamstring during Saturday’s training camp practice and won’t be available for over a week.
While the news is not good for Pickett, it presents a major opportunity for Sanders to push closer to winning the Browns’ starting job.
So far through four practices, Sanders has performed well, completing 20-of-31 passes and three touchdowns, according to ESPN Cleveland’s tracker. However, he is the only quarterback, out of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel, not to receive any first-team snaps.
With Pickett now out of the picture for the time being, it would not be surprising to see Sanders receive some first-team reps this upcoming week.
Sometimes you need things to break your way in the NFL, and this could be the break that Sanders needs to establish himself as a legitimate candidate to start Week 1.
After a day off on Sunday, the Browns will be back on the practice field Monday, where all eyes will be on Sanders’ possibility of receiving his first rep with the first team.
