The Dallas Cowboys are navigating a challenging season marked by roster turnover and mounting injuries, most notably losing quarterback Dak Prescott to a season-ending hamstring surgery.
After letting 11 veterans walk in the offseason, Dallas’s depth has been tested, and the impact has been most evident in the ground game.
The Cowboys’ rushing attack, once a hallmark of the offense, has plummeted to No. 31 in the NFL, managing just 83.7 yards per game. With only three rushing touchdowns and 753 yards on the season, Dallas ranks near the bottom in ground production. Rico Dowdle leads the Cowboys with 374 rushing yards on 83 attempts, followed by Ezekiel Elliott’s 171 yards on 54 attempts and two touchdowns-making him the only running back to find the end zone. Prescott, before his injury, logged the team’s third rushing touchdown.
In the midst of Dallas’s struggles, Boise State Broncos running back and Heisman favorite Ashton Jeanty recently voiced his interest in joining the Cowboys. Just a few short weeks ago, the young running back expressed he would like to go to the Kansas City Chiefs or even the Dallas Cowboys. Now, Jeanty, a standout with Texas roots, spoke about his aspirations on the Kickin’ It With Dee podcast, re-stating that Dallas would be an ideal fit.
“If I could script it. My family is all in Texas. Family being there, all the connections. All the relationships. I feel like that [Dallas] would be the perfect city to play in,” Jeanty shared, emphasizing the importance of family and community ties.
The podcast host added, “Jerry Jones, make the call,”
To which Jeanty responded, “You know what to do.”
Jeanty has been a force for Boise State, racking up 1,734 rushing yards on 224 carries, averaging 7.7 yards per carry, with a remarkable 23 rushing touchdowns across nine games this season. Known for his explosiveness, Jeanty has recorded runs of at least 35 yards in eight of those nine games, further demonstrating his potential as an NFL-caliber back.
