The Kansas City Chiefs will be taking on the Buffalo Bills this weekend … one leg short.
The Chiefas without one of their top performers for the next month due to a major roster move that has impact that will now last a month for the back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
The Chiefs will likely be placing kicker Harrison Butker on injured reserve, which will mean he will be due to miss the next four games, starting with this Sunday’s key AFC showdown against the Bills in Orchard Park, New York.
Butker apparently injured his left knee this week in practice and it is now being reported that the Pro Bowl kicker will have surgery to trim his meniscus in his knee.
The Chiefs do anticipate a full and relatively quick recovery, with the undefeated club planning on having him back late in the season and for the playoffs.”
The Chiefs have quickly made a move toward a replacement for Butker in the short term and have poached away from the New York Jets practice squad Spencer Shrader.
Shrader is a rookie UDFA who kicked last week for the Jets in a 31-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in which the kicker made both of this field-goal attempts.
This offseason, the Chiefs re-signed Butker to a four-year contract extension worth up to $25.6 million.
