BREAKING : Former Chiefs WR Still Without a Job Entering Training Camp

Former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Kadarius Toney remains a free agent after what was a rocky start to the pass catcher’s career. Perhaps calling Toney a pass catcher in the first place is a bit unfair and ignores what landed the receiver in his current position.

While Chiefs fans have learned to be patient with their weapons, the team couldn’t turn the page soon enough on Toney. Having a receiver who cannot catch or hold onto the football consistently is obviously a bit problematic. This was further exacerbated by Toney’s concerns off the field. Kansas City was quickly left with no choice but to turn the page.

Toney spent time with the Cleveland Browns after leaving the Chiefs, but dealt with similar problems. The receiver was first drafted by the New York Giants, who only needed two seasons to shrug their shoulders and move on in frustration. While Toney is going to have a hard time continuing his career, there are still positives to take away from his Kansas City tenure. The biggest lasting impression will be what Toney accomplished in Super Bowl LVII.

Former Chiefs Receiver Kadarius Toney Remains a Free Agent

Toney holds the record for the longest punt return in a Super Bowl, taking it 65 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a key moment that gave the Chiefs the needed steam to complete another title run. Still, the one great moment doesn’t wipe away the lack of questions about effort and the consistent drops that plagued the playmaker.

The receiver still searching for a landing spot doesn’t come as a surprise for this reason. Kansas City is in no position to consider a reunion with a nice group of reliable weapons at the position. For Toney to continue his career, the receiver is going to need to either take advantage of an injury or find a team willing to take a risk on a fringe roster player.

Either situation is going to require Toney to prove the issues with drops are behind him and offset by the elite speed that made the receiver an attractive addition in the first place. While it has taken longer than expected, it would still be surprising not to see Toney find a landing spot at some point in the 2025 offseason.
