Kansas City Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy will enter Year 2 with huge expectations after finishing his rookie season with a bang.

After being a slow burn initially, after Week 10, Worthy exploded, posting at least 40+ receiving yards in his final seven regular season games, and continued that in the playoffs, which culminated with a monster 157-yard, two-touchdown game in the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, with another preseason set to be under his belt, NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks has quite the prediction for Worthy in his second season.

“The former first-rounder could use the 2024 postseason as a springboard to a breakout campaign, and potentially Pro Bowl accolades, should he emerge as the No. 1 option in the Chiefs’ passing game,” Brooks writes. “Worthy’s impressive performance in Super Bowl LIX (eight catches for 157 yards and a pair of scores) and the AFC Championship Game (six grabs for 85 yards and a TD) showed Andy Reid and Co. that he is capable of anchoring the passing attack in big moments.”

Xavier as the No. 1 option? Sheesh.

Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown, right now, loom as Patrick Mahomes’ go-to weapons, but shocking as it might seem, it also isn’t too hard to envision, given how well Mahomes and Worthy connected down the stretch, to think that Xavier might see more balls coming his way.

The ability to not only get downfield with his blistering speed, but also to be used on jet sweeps and quick slants, gives Worthy plenty of tools on his receiver belt to develop into a “do it all” type of weapon.

Yes, we might be setting the bar a bit high in 2025, but Worthy has shown he can be counted on in big spots, and with another year of learning the system and developing a better connection with Mahomes, who knows, maybe Worthy could develop into a star No. 1 receiver.

We can hear Bills Mafia screaming at the possibility.
