The Kansas City Chiefs made a strategic move in the 2025 NFL Draft, using the No. 32 overall pick to select Ohio State tackle Josh Simmons after trading down one spot with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The selection has drawn praise from an unexpected source with ties to both organizations.

Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce offered high praise for the pick during the latest episode of “New Heights,” delivering a comparison that should excite Chiefs fans.

“I’ve watched a lot of these linemen coming out (of college) the last few years,” said Jason Kelce, who was a six-time All-Pro center with Philly. “This kid, I mean, he is the closest thing I’ve seen to like a Trent Williams—like that next level strength and athleticism. The only reason he fell to you guys is because of that injury.”

That endorsement from Kelce carries significant weight given his decorated career and expertise evaluating offensive line talent.

The comparison to San Francisco 49ers All-Pro Trent Williams suggests Kansas City landed a player with elite potential.

Simmons took an unconventional path to this moment.

He began at San Diego State, redshirting in 2021 before seeing action primarily at right tackle.

His transfer to Ohio State proved beneficial, as he started every game at left tackle in 2023.

The 2024 season started strong with six starts before a knee injury ended his campaign early.

Despite the shortened season, Simmons earned honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition from conference coaches.

At 6-foot-5 and 317 pounds, he brings the size and athleticism that translates well to the professional level.

Recovery reports indicate Simmons should be ready for training camp.

He joins a retooled Kansas City offensive line that also added former San Francisco 49ers lineman Jaylon Moore on a two-year, $30 million contract.

These additions signal the Chiefs’ commitment to strengthening protection as they pursue another championship run.
