One of the biggest debates going on within the Kansas City Chiefs’ brass at the moment is likely the wide receiver room. There are several guys fighting for a spot at the end of the depth chart, which could lead to some difficult decisions once training camp rolls around.

We know that Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, and Jalen Royals are locks to make the 53-man roster. JuJu Smith-Schuster likely is as well, thanks to his excellent blocking ability and experience, which leaves one or two spots for familiar faces like Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross, Nikko Remigio, or an incoming signing such as Tyquan Thornton.

One undrafted rookie still battling is former Arizona State and Florida standout Elijhah Badger. He’s talented and could theoretically fill playoff hero Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s role, though it appears more likely than not that Badger will wind up getting cut.

Chiefs Rookie WR Elijhah Badger Likely to Get Cut Soon

Fresh off a season as a Gator in which he caught 39 passes for 806 yards and four TDs, Badger had at least three campaigns with more than 700 receiving yards in college. He’s a bona fide deep threat, having averaged a sparkling 20.7 yards per catch in 2024, and his skillset fits what head coach Andy Reid typically covets in wideouts.

Through no fault of his own, though, Badger’s chances to make the roster are slim to none. Perhaps he could be a practice squad guy, but it’d be a shock to see him beat out more established players like Remigio or Moore.

To his credit, Badger led the Pac-12 with 578 kick return yards as a Wildcat in 2023, so he certainly has value on special teams as well. That helps against Remigio, in particular, though special teams coordinator Dave Toub has long been fond of Remigio and will likely fight to keep him on the roster.

Badger seems to have a future in the NFL. He’s a talented player, yet even still, that future won’t be with Kansas City barring a surprise.
