Chiefs see 3 key returns from injury on Wednesday

Chiefs Injury Update: JuJu Smith-Schuster, Isiah Pacehco and more - Arrowhead Pride

The Kansas City Chiefs’ cavalry is coming.

The team’s first practice of the week on Wednesday, ahead of their Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, featured three key returns: wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, defensive lineman Charles Omenihu and running back Isiah Pacheco.

“[Omenihu and Pacheco] will start working [Wednesday],” said head coach Andy Reid at his usual press conference, “and we’ll just gradually build them up as we go.”

Pacheco fractured his fibula in Kansas City’s Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, while Omenihu tore his ACL in the Chiefs’ AFC Championship game win over the Baltimore Ravens. With Pacheco still currently on the Reserve/Injured list and Omenihu still on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, their practice returns open up a 21-day window in which the Chiefs can activate them to the 53-man roster.

Neither Pacheco nor Omenihu is expected to play against Buffalo. On the other hand, the Chiefs are optimistic that Smith-Schuster will be able to suit up after a hamstring injury kept him from playing in the team’s previous three games.

“There’s a good chance he’s back,” said Reid. “We’ll see how we go through practice, but if it’s up to him, he’s back.”

The team believes starting left tackle Wanya Morris should be OK to play as he continues to work through a bone bruise to his right knee.

“[Morris] tweaks it every now and then,” said Reid of Morris. “So he comes out, and he’s able to go back in.”
