Dallas Cowboys Announce Surprising Cut of Fan-Favorite Lineman - Athlon Sports

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys are busy making roster moves ahead of training camp, which begins on July 21 in Oxnard, California.

On a day that was headlined by the Baltimore Ravens signing free agent corner Jaire Alexander, Dallas’ moves were a bit more subtle, but not less surprising.

The Cowboys’ most notable move might have been waiving defensive tackle Justin Rogers. Rogers is a former seventh-round draft pick of the team in 2024, and was waived out of training camp. Dallas chose not to sign him to their practice squad at the time.

The move was an unpopular one for fans, who thought Rogers might develop into a run-stuffing tackle. But that never materialized.

Instead, the former Kentucky Wildcats and Auburn Tigers defensive tackle signed to the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice unit.

The Cowboys signed Rogers off the Bengals’ practice squad on Dec. 19, although he never appeared in a game.

Now, it appears his second stint with Dallas will go the same way as the first.

Across 43 games in four collegiate seasons, Rogers posted 77 tackles with 28 solo and eight for loss and added four sacks.

The Cowboys also waived cornerback Luq Barcoo, who joined the practice squad late last season.

Dallas used the two roster spots to sign veterans Robert Rochell and Perrion Winfrey.

Rochell, a cornerback, is a former fourth-round draft pick in 2021 by the Los Angeles Rams who has also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Winfrey, a defensive tackle, was also a fourth-round pick, but in 2022 by the Cleveland Browns, who has also played for the New York Jets and the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions.
